And don't forget to buy them some goodies once in a while! I've lost three "box-ordering" banks for various reasons and have always wondered if I should have been more generous.

    Two boxes of halves: 1-90% (64); 1-40% (69-D), 7- NIFC.

Sorta back from vacation (house sitting now for a week), so I cracked open a fresh box of Cents. I'm thirteen rolls in, and this beauty shows up as I shell a roll.

Got me a bit excited! :)

So I went to a coin shop I've had a good relationship with over the last six years and presented it to the dealer. He concluded it was a lead slug used to cheat slot machines with, or to fool someone who was putting together a set of Morgans.

Oh well; I'm only out $1.

I have cut way back on roll searching, just too much work and family during the summer. I have confined my searching to just one of my credit unions in the past couple of months. These are the results from Thursdays buys:

    $950 in CWR dimes
1 very lovely rose coloured 1943 Merc
    3 silver roosies, 1947, 1963-D, and a 1964

    $270 CWR nickels
    1 1938
1 1939-S the only highlight of the nickels
    1 1953-S
    21 40s dates, don't bother with 50s commons
    1 Canada YH 1962 12 sided

    $170 CWR cents
    1 1937-D
    1 1939
    51 40s and 50s dates ho hum
    3 Canada GVI 43x2 45
    8 68-74-S
    6 dimes
    1 Cayman Is 1 cent 1999
    1 Bermuda 1 cent 1991
and 1 1978 US cent counterstamped with the Masonic symbol not once, not twice, but three times for good measure.

Did also get a '68-D half and two Ikes over the counter.

Except for the sweet coloured Merc and the 40% half the rest of the finds were rather ho-hum.

That 58 is a beaut'e. Wonder who's fingerprint that is on it? From a long time ago by the color. Maybe we can get someone to run the print. its almost criminal to print a gem like that.

Yeah the fingerprint does detract, but it is the nicest golden wheat I've found in a while.

Went through a few customer wrapped rolls today and found an elusive steelie. :)

Haven't found many of these. Maybe 5 lifetime?

I think I have found about 150 of the steelies in the last nine years, most of them, about half came from one box and most of them were AU-BU and there were a bunch of other 40s and 50s in AU-BU. One time a couple of years ago I got a steelie in a dime roll.

That was a lucky find scottishmoney. All of the steelies I've found were about like the one I posted. I do have a non-rusty example of each coin that I bought at a car show years ago, 43-P & 43-D at a little better than Fine, and 43-S at Fine, but none anywhere near AU.

My grandmother collected about $5 worth of steel cents while she was a bank teller for 23 years. I've never looked through her bag of steel cents. Is there any error or anything significant about them other than the fact they were made of steel?

I've seen them for sale at flea markets for $1 each, which seems high to me.

I put all mine in those non-PVC holders and capsules. If you search through as many cents as I did up until recently you will find quite a bit of stuff. Recently roll searching is just about a once or twice a month thing for me. I used to go through maybe $700-$1200 a week.

Of cents? When did you have time to sleep?

Nickels also. I didn't start doing dimes until a while back. Now I prefer dimes and nickels - cents are a PITA - right now I have $120 worth sitting in the back of my car to cash in tomorrow. And not really that many wheats to show for it.

I asked a teller for halves this week and she asked me how many I wanted. I told her I would take as many as she had. Then she told me she had a full box that someone had ordered and never picked up. I said I'd take them.

Is it just me or does it seem like those full boxes from somebody else are always better than the ones you order for yourself?

    Results were:

    1952 Ben
    Seven 1964 Kennedy
    14 forty percenters

    About 4.5 ounces.

Oh, and I was disappointed at first because there was not a single ender showing. Fun how all 21 coins can be hiding like that...

I have yet to receive an ender half... then again, I'm only a little more than 2 months into my half dollar box searching...

From yesterday's 30 rolls of nickels. With the 45-S, I am now only missing the 38-S, 39-D, 43-D, 45-P, 50-D, and 55 from my set from circulation... 43s45s.jpg
