I am sorry to hear that as it must be quite disappointing to go through 3000 coins and find nothing, but I do feel a little better about my own experience. 4 or 5 would be enough to make me happy.

On another note... if you are a silver searcher and your bank uses Brinks, they have just made it much easier. At least in quarters and dimes so far. They have begun sending their coins in clear plastic shrink tubes. It only takes a second or two to look at the edges of the roll and see if there's anything in there. I was asked last weekend if I could make a change run for a store that I frequent. I said I'd do it happily, so long as I could search them first. They expect nothing less. Grabbed a few rolls from the bank and spotted a dime in the roll with a silver edge. The easiest search yet. The box of halves I got also came from Brinks, but was still wrapped in paper. I wish it had been plastic. Could have saved a lot of time in finding nothing at all.

Another oddity from Brinks. I typically grab several rolls of cents every evening to give me something to do for a half an hour or so. The Brinks rolls seem to have a very high proportion of Canadians in them. I might find 2 wheats in 10 rolls, but I'm finding 3, 4, 5, sometimes more Canadians per roll.

That's too bad, I just went through 10 roll's and averaged 2 silver's per roll

Glad to hear you had such good results!

I have been through about $32,000 in halves this year and I can say that it really makes a difference where the rolls come from; my hand-rolled average of silver is much higher than machine rolled from the Federal Reserve.

I spent about an hour on the phone today trying to locate bank's within 75 mile radius that had rolled halves, found one 60 miles away, they wouldn't sell any to me because I didn't have an acct., so I stayed local and opened an acct at a different bank so they will order $1000.00 for me, halves are not big here on the Florida gulf coast.

I finally located a bank that just happened to have 20 rolls of halves (I tried about 10 banks), they were all marked with a date scrawled in pen (e.g. "1977") and yes they were all 1977 D in that roll. Obviously someone had been there before. Big downer after searching so many banks. The only solution I found is to order them at a bank in which I have an account.

    not for collectors

As opposed to the guy off the street non-collector who is going to come in and get a bunch of halves to spend!! I bet that happens often.:D

Reminds me of a bank I once went to where I called and was told that they have $250 in halves but when I got there, was told they were for "business customers only" to which I asked "how often are they used?" and got no reply...

The bank that I opened an new acct. at said that they didn't want a bunch of them back so i'll go to another branch and make a deposit into my new acct. with them and buy gas with em and deposit some into my primary bank, every store I go to is going to get some halve's, yard sales......I'll do my best to get halve's back into circulation, atleast here

I got pretty much the same response from a teller about 2 ½ years ago. The real reason was that she didn't want to have to get halves from the vault when I asked for rolls, and she REALLY didn't want to have to count/sort the returns. I'd had an account at that bank for 5 years, my father for almost 30 years. Eventually I spoke with a manager who agreed to supply me with 25 rolls a week at no charge, no questions asked. I did that for 2 years before taking a break last month.

Yup. That is what they told me too. But two weeks later a different teller said they were for regular customers. She said they only ask for 1 or 2 at a time.
I did speak to the manager after the tellers told me they were all out of halfs. He was no help but did show me his Ike dollars he took from circulation. I never went back there again. Goodbye Silver Witch Supreme.
Yesterday I went to a bank where I have an account and asked for halves. The nice teller was honest with me and told me a bank employee searches all the coins and picks out the silver. This lady came out of her office and said yes, she does remove all the silver. She was not interested in selling any.
"That's one of the perks of working at a bank" she said.
I think that by returning to the same banks asking for rolls all the time is giving a tip off to bank employees. They are getting wise and picking out the silver themselves.

Searched 8 rolls of dimes. Found a 1964D AU, one Canadian 1982, and an unusual obverse 1985.

Thanks. The 1985P dime is really a weird strike too.
What amazed me is when I went to cash in the rejects from those 8 rolls. In the hopper of the coin machine were 3 Canadian cents, a 2003 Canadian quarter and a 2004 Canadian 1 penny which I've never seen before. At least I think it is Canadian. It does not say Canada on it and it is larger than regular Canadian cents.

Well last friday when I went to the bank and asked if the bag of halves I ordered was delivered and she said that whoever at the main branch is in charge of ordering money from the feds said that since they are being bought out by another bank at the end of the month that she didn't want to order them for me yet. I said as plainly as I could ... "So December 1st I can get them ordered?" :headbang: and she said.. Well, I don't know because it will be citizens first bank then, but possibly. I hope they don't forget I am a citizen when I go back. It wouldn't bother me too much to talk to the manager and tell him I want every dime I have in that bank removed IMMEDIATELY if he even acts like I am being a pain in the ass for simply asking them to add 1 item to their order from the feds. I hope that when the new bank takes over that they hire friendlier people or that they have a long LONG meeting with the current employees and explain them the meaning of citizens first. :hail:

I picked up $200.00 in halves today, not a silver in the bunch, they came from the federal reserve :headbang: , but I did find some various dates in VG to VF, keeper's anyway.

For Bruce1947 who was worried about getting their old rolls again, mark the roll. Here in my town we have to put either phone or account # on the rolls. If you don't just hatch mark them.
