Kind of a slow day. Tried a different area with a large senior population nearby, but a teller at one bank told me the area seniors snatch up the halves for their own collections or grandkids. Hit up about a dozen banks, came away with about $15 worth of clad halves, and 2 Ike's.

Took the clads to a nearby Coinstar to cash in for an Amazon.com code, and the guy ahead of me was emptying a piggy bank. Saw that one of his rejects was a Roosevelt dime with a silver rim so I offered him a quarter for it when he was done - turned out to be a 1959-D.

Thanks. I had a dry spell myself. Looks like 2015 may be a good year for roll searching! Keep hunting, they're out there!

Who else in the northeast is heading to the bank today, so they'll have something to do for the next couple of days?

Me! I just went to the credit union. Picked up a box of half dollars that they ordered for me last Thursday, a box of nickels, and $5 in CWR cents.

Jeffies have always bored me in the past. I'd only pick up a few rolls here and there, never finding a buff or any silver. I've discovered now, there are many varieties to look for. Picked up my first box the other day. Not a complete skunk at all, found a nice 1938 S Proof and a strange 1956. The '56 on the reverse has a cud or more likely a grease-filled 'C' of CENTS. The best pic I could grab looks like just a scratch though...

Why do you think that 38s is a proof?

Wow, I hadn't checked the photos, I just assumed it was a typo for "83-S".

In hand, the 38 S appears to have real squared rims and an overall strong strike. I'll have to look it over some more or look up some diagnostics to know for sure if it's a proof. Either way, it's going in my circ album.

The reason I ask is because I'm pretty sure proof coins were only struck in Philly during that year. It is a nice coin you have but I highly doubt it is a proof.
