1965-2013? Why 1965 (and not, say, 1959)? Just curious. Congrats, btw.

My job is effing awesome! Here's what I found last night:
    14 wheats: '35D, '40S, 44D, '46x2, '47, '49, '50, '51, '51D, '52Dx2, '53D, '57D
    1959Dx4
    Canadian pennies: '51, '62x2, '67, '69 and 7 later dates.
1904 Indian Head! My first indian head found in circulation, second in my collection now.
2 silvers! 1945S war nickel and 1961 Dime!
Such a great night at work.

I also found this coin, wasn't sure what it was but after searching on google it turns out that it's from Greece. The coin counting machine at work rejects all foreign coins (except canadians) but it actually accepted this as a US dollar coin.

Dunno to be honest. I decided to do 1959 and below since I kind of figured it went along with wheats(minus the 1959).

Well, the book has only slots 1965-2013, but yes a couple more dates and I'd have a memorial collection. Technically I have PDS to 1938s.

Got word from a bank that I inquired about coins that they can't order boxes for me without a $0.10 per roll fee ($5 per box). I thanked them for their time and closed out my account (which I opened with them when they said ordering coins wouldn't be a problem). Back to the drawing board. I have two more banks to ask in my city. :(

Good news is that I was able to meet with a lady yesterday and she allowed me to buy her collection. Not much there...lots of common wheat pennies but some notable coins were 1892 Dime and 1896 Canadian Dime. Still, it was fun to organize/sort.

Found this cool lamination error cent in a roll this morning. The piece was still attached. I still have 4 more boxes to go through before I post my results for the week but wanted to share this one now :)

<'60 does seem to be the generally accepted cut off date for most searchers I've talked to. I'm sure they have their reasons, but anyone I've talked to - including my LCS - gives me a stock "because anything before '60 feels old" answer.

Since I'm new to searching and have what I hope is a 30+ year horizon for collecting, I pull everything from <1970 and toss 'em in different coffee cans. Just like 1959 seems far away to us today, to someone in 2044 a coin from 1969 will have some appreciable age and have that "far away" feeling. Pure speculation on my part, but since I stack a portion of my searched rolls as a hedge against metal value increasing, it's an easy way to cover both sides of the collecting fence for me.

Had a good run of luck with my 10th box of pennies this week: 547 copper cents

    Wheats: 1944, 1946 (x5), 1951, 1952-D, 1953, 1956-D (x2)

    Plus: 1959 (x3), 1959-D (x3)

    Plus: Canada 1974, 1994, 2001

Plus (drum roll, please): 1926-S, 1898 IHC

That's my first IHC out of circulation. Both the '26 and '98 are in what I'd call "decent" shape. Need to pull out the Red Book and give them a more formal look. Sorry no pictures. The only camera I have is on my hone and it gets awfully blurry at close range. I'll keep working on that and see if I can get a snapshot.

I like that idea, but keep in mind the mintages are much higher in later years. If they do get a numismatic premium, it will be very little. I know lot's of people who keep there pre-1982 copper cents cause 1. the cents are worth like 2.5x face value, and it goes along with your holding pre 70 nickels.
Just a suggestion. The only backdraw is, it takes up alot of volume in space, And the people holding the copper cents believe the law is going to be changed so they get allowed to melt them down for copper value.

I try to sort through a box a week and generally I'm getting +/- $5.00 a week in face value copper cents. It may come to nothing if they don't change the melt laws, but the precedent is there since they've allowed it for junk silver. Not much chance of getting rick quick - It's a hobby at best for me.

The volume and weight issue is no joke. Fortunately coffee cans and old ammo cans stack decently as long as they're sitting on concrete. I definitely wouldn't recommend storing them on a second floor without some serious reinforcing beneath them. Now I just hope I never have a reason to move the pile in a hurry.

That's good. I live on a second floor building, so that would be a nightmare. Imagien trying to transpot them down the stairs! Yikes!

Found $500 CWR dimes at a local bank. Searched through them and found 2 roosies. I'm currently at 440 silver coins for the year and counting. Still hoping for 500 before the year is up...but not very hopeful.
