Picked up box of nickels and $50 in CWR dimes.

Dimes were a skunk except for the 2 extra dimes. About to go through the box of nickels now.

Oh, and I finally found a free coin counter in town. I decided to open an account there today so I can have me a new dump bank. For opening the account they gave me a new set of bamboo cutting boards for the kitchen. Just what I always wanted lol

First box of dimes, $250 BWR : '56 Canadian. Neat in that it's only the second piece of Canadian silver I own (and the only Canadian in the box), but it didn't exactly get me excited about searching dimes. Cents and nickels might not pay off as well in the long run, but it's more fun to look for the occasional chocolate chip in a bag of trail mix than to look for diamonds in a vast mine. :p

Didn't have too much time today but decided to try to find some halves. Not much luck, just one 1964. A nice teller had some quarters and dimes she said she was saving for a customer. I asked if I could buy them and she said yes. 6 silver quarters and 10 (!) silver dimes. After that, I figured I better try a few dime boxes. Here is what I saw when I opened one:

My second Merc ender! And here is the take for the day: a 1940 Canadian nickel, a 1965 Canadian dime, a 1964 Kennedy half, 6 silver Washington quarters, a 1943 Merc, and 18 silver Roosies. That's $3.80 in 90% US silver coins! The half dollars add up faster in silver weight, but I love finding the variety sometimes, too.

haha. i feel like they suspected i would be dumping alot by some of their comments when i asked about the coin counter. they didnt seem to mind to much. they said use it all you want, that is what it is there for.... we'll see how good they tolerate it i guess.

results for box of nickels (this was my first brinks box, wasnt too impressed): no wars, 28 pre-60s, and 1 1984 canadian 5 cent.
of the pre-60s, 7 of them were 1938-1940

I must have a really amazing dump bank... I've been dumping ~$2,500 in halves there every week, last week I did $4,000! They don't seem to mind, and I'll be doing another $4,000 this week. I Would suggest keeping a moderate balance in your account though or they may close it (I like to keep a balance at least twice as large as my dumps). I found out the hard way when my favorite bank closed my account and won't let me open a new one because I had a $10 balance and was buying $1,000 bags of dimes from them on a regular basis. Those bags always had $10-15 extra in them and a small handful of silver too.. :(

I have found a dime like that and one of my tellers gave me a quarter that I have on my desk with similar "damage". If coins have seriously upset rims and are smaller in diametre I know they spent time in a commercial clothes dryer for awhile - I use to service those machines long time ago and would find coins like that in the drum. These look like they rotated in some mechanical device where they got lots of rubbing but were not tossed around, more like they were orbiting in a tray or something for a long time.

Picked up some popcorn at the shoppette, and decided to get the gal to give me a roll of dimes just for giggles...1964 sitting inside! Loomis wrapped roll. What a lunch!

I agree with Scottish RE the dime.

Tuesday bank forgot to order... -6 boxes this week. Kinda nice, should allow me to get back on schedule with dumping everything the same week since I was lazy one week and got behind. It's really important for me to stay under my max of 20 bags, that's how TimZim lost his account, he was cleared for 25 but was dumping 30-35.
