:welcome:Boys & Girls, have an opportunity to buy a 1968-s Proof half dollar. The ask is $6.00. The coin has a small scratch on the observe at the 3 o'clock position and part of a finger print on the reverse at 10 o'clock. In your opinion should I buy, sell, or hold.

    Weekly results:

    Quarters ($450 searched): Wash x1
    Dimes ($1530 searched): Roosie x10, Merc x1
    Nickels ($366 searched): War x3, Buff x2
    Pennies ($28 searched): Wheat x16
    Halves ($2050 searched): 40% x2
    Ikes (34): 1976 Type 1 x3, 40% x1

Looks like I'm back to my piddling half dollar finds but overall it hasn't been a bad week, with 1.75 ozt found. Lots of random stuff this week, got my first 40% Ike, found a really nice 1942D Jefferson upgrade for my album, a penny with New Hampshire counterstamped on it, a gold plated half with some random dates stamped on it. And tons of foreign: 36c Canada, $1.50 UAE, 75c Aruba, 45c Bermuda, 2p UK, 5c Euro, 2c Trinidad, 100p Colombia, and loads of tokens.

Hopefully I can get back on track with halves soon!

Very nice Ikes, Atreides! I've yet to find a Philly '76 type one. And was there anything interesting in the tokens, or was it the usual arcade and car wash junk?

No, plus I also include reject & teller tray finds, so the "stats" would be off anyway.

roll searching is good for increasing quantity, but not so much for quality. In the end quality is the final objective of coin collecting. this is an answer to fadetoblack question:D.

Ahh, yeah, the rejects would throw them out of whack pretty quick.

So it has less than nothing to do with roll searching, got you.

FWIW I pick up proof and SMS sets from '65-'70 for about $8 a pop from my dealer. And he lets me cherrypick the sets for CAM's and whatnot as well... So not only do I get higher quality coins across the board, but it only costs me an extra $2 over what you're paying.

I picked up my regular 2 dime boxes at the credit union today, and asked for whatever half dollars the teller had in her tray. She mentioned that they had rolls in the back. I only had $20 left over after picking up the two boxes, so I grabbed a couple of rolls (I didn't see any silver after glancing at her tray). Both were MRW skunks, but I plan to go back after I dump these dimes to grab the rest (or at least more of them). As I was walking out the door she casually stated that they have PLENTY more in the vault..... sounds like they'd like to get rid of them!

    Hopefully the dime boxes produce!
