That's a Dime, not the key date Nickel. I kind of thought it was Nickel at first too. But still a silver dime none the less.

2 boxes of halves, 1 skunk, and 1 had 4 40%ers in it.

Like LaSodbuster, I take the copper so I feel like I'm getting something. Though they are supposed to be worth more than a penny...

Opened up a new account at another bank today just so I have somewhere new to dump. They had no halves on hand, but I was itching for some rolls to search so I made the dumb mistake of picking up $120 in CWR quarters....SKUNK. Quarter searching is such a waste of life. Plus I was skunked on $100 in CWR Dimes. Out of $20 in nickels I found a 41 and a 47....yawn.

After that bit of nonsense I stopped at a silver/gold buy/sell shop that just opened just to see what they had. I asked if they had coins customers had sold them and if they were willing to sell them. She had a 1917 and a 1945 Walking Liberty...plus a bunch of dimes. She sold me both halves for $6.50 each. Melt value is just over $10 right now. Makes me wonder what they paid the person who originally sold them to the store. I told her I would be by once a week to see what she has from now on

 

I'd head back there and clear them out as soon as possible, jrc!

I was thinking the same thing. When she said $13 I assumed she meant each, in which case I was not interested. I have no idea what she was thinking, but I was in a hurry so I didn't investigate further. Next week I am going to see about the dimes and quarters she had. If I can get them at about 35% less than melt I am going to take everything she has until she shuts me down. I also got the feeling she had zero interest in what the coins actually were. To her it was silver...weight...melt...sell. If someone were to sell her a valuable coin just for melt, I am not certain she would know the difference or even care. I am going to keep a close eye on this place.

I did penny hunting last week and out of 30 rolls I found about 9 wheaties, no key dates, but at least I found something. And this week I did dime hunting and out of 40 rolls I found 3 silver dimes and 1 proof dime. Thats not too bad, even though it took me at least an hour to go through all those rolls the $9 in silver and proof dime were cool finds.

I'm not killing it, but it sure beats a kick in the teeth.

I'm road tripping later this month and going to order a crap ton of boxes and blow through them all in a day. I'm about 5 oz away from 100 oz from CRH and I'm doing it in July no matter what it takes!
