    Moon,

It's just been kind of understood that I come in every Thursday for a box of dimes. Been doing it for about a year with no problems but the last couple weeks it seems like there has been one problem or another.
Strange, but as long as I get my two boxes tomorrow like they told me, I'll be happy.

I wish I could just call up every bank. Some banks either just have the national 1-800 number listed, or send you to an automated menu with no way of actually getting someone in the branch on the phone. Bank of America and Citibank are the worst for this.

    Anyway, yesterdays results:
Two boxes of halves: Skunk, then one 40%er and another magician's coin.

Thanks for the link. I am going to go through them all tonight. I wasn't aware of the differences.

I live in Genesee County but pick up most my coins at 2 banks in Livingston County. The one bank I am friendly with the workers and they save everything for me they think I may like. The manager says I am the only one who ever goes in there asking for halves and Ikes. The best part is I have the easiest 2 places to dump coins. I have an older gentleman who takes all of my halves because he fills books with them. The rest of my rolls I simply take back to the cash office where I work.

I just went through them all and they seem to be all type 1's and 3's...of course. In which case, even though they are in great condition, do you recommend just depositing them and using the cash for a fresh hunt?

  12. I did a box a box of halves and got a 69d  better than nothing I still have a box of nickels waiting. For me

Aren't Ikes in great condition relatively rare? I never see Ikes that don't look drab and worn

I keep an eye on my change and in the last month or so I have found a 39 and a 46-D wheat pennies, a couple each of 59s, 60s and 61 memorial cents and S mintmarks for 69, 70 and 72 cents. Then yesterday I got a 64 quarter back in change. I haven't gotten a silver quarter in change for at least 10 years. I live in a very small town and that makes me think someone got into grandpas coin collection and that I should go to our one bank and start going through some rolls.

Picking up 2 boxes of halves tomorrow at the bank.

On a side note, I'm completely bummed out. I was looking for my dive bag tonight, and it appears that I had left it outside my condo unit door on my last trip 2 weeks ago. I thought I brought it in at the time, but I was so tired, that I went right to bed when I got home and never even thought about it later (atleast I think that's what happened). Tonight I was going thru my things and I can't find it anywhere. I have a small place and the bag takes up a lot of space. It is not here, and that is the last time I saw it. Sucks b/c there was about $500 worth of diving gear in that bag.

Looks like I'll be selling a bunch of 40%ers quicker than I wanted too. So much for using that money for a trip......sometimes life really sucks.

I've gone through about 500 Ikes, maybe 10 to 20 percent are what I'd guess to be AU. About 5 percent I'd say are in MS condition. (I'm by no means an experienced grader, though.) I think the rims are a good giveaway, they're really really sharp and square on the best ones.

Yeah, I need to sell some off, too. I've been holding out as long as I can for silver to go back up, but I don't know how long I can sit.

    And today's results:
1st box of halves: One '64 and two 40%ers
2nd box of halves: One '64 and two 40%ers

Not too bad to close out the month.

High grade Ikes are valuable. I was just talking to a guy today who sold an MS67 Ike for 10 grand. So if you think they are really high grade, post pictures here and someone more knowledgeable will tell you what they believe the grade is.

It depends. Here's a list of some keepers:
1942 - 45 War nickels are 35% silver (some 1942 are NOT silver, you can tell the silver ones by the large mint mark over Montecello)
    1939-D is key
    1950 D hard to find
    2009 are lower mintage
Many keep any nickel older than 1960
Any one in MS shape that is older

I did a box of halves today and found one 1968.

    Major score today.

I had a major score today, for me. Rolled through about $210 in cwr and loose halves today from a few different banks. After a couple stops I started looking at the rolls. 3 rolls had silver in them, one almost solid. Thought for a while to figure which bank they were from. A couple hours later, I went back to the bank that the hot rolls were from and picked up the rest they had. 2 more rolls with silver. The first 90% that I have found in a long time. Sweet.

    64 x3
    65 x4
    66 x2
    67 x16
    68 x18

    90% x3
    40% x44
