Hi all,

One of my favorite pastimes when I am on a layover is to seek out a local bank and p;urchase $5 to $15 worth of rolled pennies. I am a flight attendant and have been able to get to the east coast, west coast and places in between.

Today, I was home, and although it was a 45 mile drive, I went to the monthly coin show here in Phoenix. I purchased several nicely toned Morgans, but before I left, I stopped by a table where a guy had a $25 box of cents. I looked in, no they were not mint wrapped. Then he told me the story how his father saved change and would wrap the pennies and when he finished a roll, he would date it and put it in a box. Turned out he had 6 boxes.....$150 worth of pennies his father had rolled and put away. I asked how much, and was able to purchase all 6 boxes for only $20.00 over face....he said he just wanted to get rid of them.

When I got home, I looked a little closer. Sure enough, they were all dated. The earliest I pulled out was 1963, the latest about 1988. There are many in the mid 60's and early 70's. They are all circulated...but who knows what treasures might lurk in these penny rolls that haven't seen the light of day in some 20-45 years!

I guess I have my work cut out for me.....it's a tough and dirty job, but someone has to do it!! By the way, the father lived in California!!!! S-mint city!!! Yea!!! Maybe a 69-s ddo....a 70-s small date....????.
