I just went back and double-checked those daily Informed Delivery emails for when the coin shipment was due to arrive.
In fact, they do separate letters from even small boxes for some reason. The letter size mail is shown upon opening the email, but if there are packages, then there is a link just below the last letter image that allows you to 'view incoming packages on your dashboard'. Maybe this was part of the lack of clarity here.

Yeah, that's one of the rules of software development everywhere: never make a feature simple and consistent when you can make the user jump through extra hoops instead.

    Hopefully they both are.

I can only imagine what the Cops must have been thinking when you went in there for that. I do like that eBay is making people do that for claims that their mail was tampered with (though they should make them use the Postal Inspectors) as it turns false claims into an actual crime and is a deterrent for scammers.

It doesn't show pictures of the packages but you can see the incoming tracking when someone makes a label for it or has it scanned in. If junk mail is supposed to be excluded USPS has a very different definition of junkmail than I do. Every letter gets scanned now a days.

Hard to believe. Just plain certified mail has no insurance and no tracking. You can use Certified in combination with Priority Insured which would give you tracking, but then you would have to pay the regular Priority postage, plus the insurance, plus the Certified mail fee. So it would cost more than the regular Priority insured package. And as I mentioned earlier a $3,000 package sent by Priority Insured would be $50.30 plus the Certified mail fee. The same package sent Registered with a declared value of $3,000 is $19.35. The insurance rates for Registered mail are MUCH lower than for any other mail service. Why? Because Registered mail is much safer and claims are almost nonexistant.

Okay, I'm lost. I don't know what happened between the start of your last post (disagreeing with me) and the end (agreeing with me)...?

I don't see what I said as being in agreement. I said Certified was the worst, you said Certified insured was cheaper than any other method. I pointed out the Certified has no tracking, to get tracking you would have to certify a priority insured package and that would cost more than just sending it priority insured. And that it would be much more expensive that just sending it Registered. So Certified insured is NOT cheaper than any other insured alternative. Seems to me I disagreed the whole way.

The fault was mine; I was somehow translating "Certified" as "Registered". I have no idea what was going through my head, except perhaps a dry breeze.

So we're in agreement: you're right. Registered is the way to go. (I don't think I even know what "Certified Mail" is...)

It's a thing for letters with tracking that people have to sign for. Cheaper way to get tracking than priority basically and requires the signature. A lot of people use it for paying bills or sending legal documents ect

But Certified has no tracking while it is in transit. It shows when mailed, and it shows when signed for. If it disappears along the way there is no way to tell where.

Certified has tracking along the way now. It gets departure and arrival scans
