BNB I would like to offer you some advice from my heart. Try doing this exercise for at least six months. Get a big note book, your going to need it. As you participate in creating threads, or replying to those of others, make note of the topic of the thread and write a short composition about the replies others have given, do not inject your own opinions or thoughts. You need not keep a record of names, just the comments that pertain to the subject matter. DO NOT INJECT YOUR OWN BELIEFS ABOUT THE TOPIC. After six months have passed, choose one topic or coin which you wish to present your findings after doing your own research. It's a terrific learning experience. At that time, compose a paragraph or two about what you have learned, and post that thread for open discussion. Good luck.
A point of clarification -- you don't own any "high end" coins (or at least I've not seen any I would call high-end, numismatically speaking). That said, it's the journey not the destination that we as collectors should be focused on, and I agree that you've come a long way down that path. Respectfully...Mike (who doesn't own any "high-end" coins either)
relative question, but I think that to many here a high-end coin is one that sells for at least 5 figures
guys hang on here, its not like i'm quitting coin collecting the hobby for good.. i am just slowing up on buying what i see as "high end coins" for my budget. that's all.
Top 10% of grade or value for any issue. I also fully realize that "high end" is extremely subjective.
That is how I always interpreted the definition of "high end".. makes much more sense, if we are to apply it universally over every issue.
retirement ended a few days ago: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=7&threadid=752121&highlight_key=y stainless
Before you assume, ask who might be getting it? Not me, my father is because I got him into collecting as well and it's to complete the family reverse proof set. Sheesh.
Had to read though all this just to see how many times stainless would come back after being done with a thread.
I see you looking to buy a coin. Its an easy assumption to make that its for you. Don't get all bent out of shape if people don't actually believe your retirement. We've all seen people "retire" and then come back two weeks later. Nothing wrong with that. Me? I personally don't give a flop if you retire or not.
Yea why do people do that? It's not just collecting coins, I see it in the blogger world and on facebook all the time. Someone makes an announcement they are done with this or that... and yet a month later.. they come back re-invented. I never understood the need to announce it either... why not just say (if you have to) I'm taking a break and then if it ends up being permanent so be it, if not you don't look like a bozo. lol
My bad...I guess after this thread kept on showing on the top of coin chat I decided to check it out again and again. Its good to see you are following what I am saying, while I (and probably nobody else here) don't do the same for you, and in fact, I have never even seen (or at least noticed) your name in a thread until now... stainless
