Thank you for that insightful post Blake. I am looking forward to your posting of that Nerva Augustus Restoration Sestertius - I haven’t seen many of those.

I had not thought about that, Blake. When I was trying to build a Julio-Claudian Sestertius portrait sub-collection many years ago it took what seemed forever to acquire an Augustus portrait Sestertius. If I had been familiar with this Restoration coinage back then (I wasn’t) I could have probably found a Nerva Restoration sestertius (which bears a really nice Augustus portrait) much easier.

It is bizarre that there were a number of Augustus restoration issues for sale in a short time frame - these are not common either but certainly less money

Well that was conjecture on my part. I am not so sure there were that many Restoration issues for sale at that time - could have been there were actually less than “regular” Augustus issues. BTW there is a pretty nice Nerva Restoration Augustus Sestertius - with a very nice portrait - presently listed on Vcoins by a reliable and well respected Dealer at $1475 (plus shipping).

And I just noticed a second one at over $3000 - Not well listed in my opinion: “Coin, Divus Augustus, Sestertius, 98 AD, Rome, Bronze, RIC:136”.
