    I don't see a "V". Or any other initials.

Care to edit the picture and post what you see as the "V"?

No VDB and it would be lower then the circle anyway.

Does the VDB tend to wear off like this and the rest of the stamp remain?

No, the VDB is low in relief and will be one of the last things to wear.

I do not understand the term "Residual VDB" since it implies that the V.D.B. "was" there but is now not there.

No other evidence on the coin supports such a theory.

I think I know what he is seeing. The attached photos are of a 1909 VBD that I have that has a similar image. The VBD is warn but the image is there from a side view rather than from straight on. 20150523_114919.jpg 20150523_114919.jpg

Your red line goes right over the top of the V and right through the top of the D and through the middle of where the B should be.

Well, I think you're imagining things. There, someone said it. On a VF30 coin, even on a weak VDB, you're going to see it. "Residual VDB" is a hopeful term as there's either a VDB or there isn't, there are no fragments of VDBs. There's a dot there, and I don't know where that came from.

Then explain the image in this photo. As I said earlier you can see the VBD image 20150523_114654.jpg from a side angle but not straight on.

  20. Hi all. I'm a recent CT forum reader, and this is my first post, so please excuse any errors. I also have a 1909 (VDB?) exactly like the one shown here. And, like this one, the initials can only be seen from an angle. I assumed the initials were ground off the die so it could still be used after the furor over the initials being there. A few few months ago I sent Q. David an email about this coin, and never received an answer.

  21. P.S. My cent isn't an 'S', just a Philly.
