Republican Denarius that has it all: Great Story, Interesting Type and Old Provenance

Ex Peus, Lagerliste 26, lot 99 (1973); ex Hommel collection; ex Kölner Münzkabinett.</font></p><p><br /></p><p>It came with two old tickets. The ticket on the left is Hildebrecht Hommel's own. The one on the right is younger and was written by somebody else. At some point, Hildebrecht Hommel had his Republican collection reorganized. Ex Hommel collection, ex Kölner Münzkabinett.</font></p><p><br /></p><p>According to Fritz Hommel's ticket, which is niftily fashioned from an old postal envelope, he acquired this coin from a certain Lennox in a swap on Dec. 4, 1911.
