I looked at a few,and your correct lesser graded note or even raw ungraded can be had for a reasonable price,I'm going to hold off for a nice ex45 or better.
I had a (email) discussion with the Author of the Engravers Line today. This was due to the fact I am/have been stumped on some of these vignettes you posted. He suggested that this image may be.. " Penn's Treaty with the Indians, however, it was originally done for Security BNCo. In turn this company was purchased by Internatinal BNCo, wich purchased American BNCo. You will find this subject listed in the work of Charles Burt, but it was a different version probably done for ABNCo." I trust what he has said on this, heck he knows alot more than we do on this subject!
RickieB,that's what I call "knowing the right people". I trust what he says too.You have really done your home work. I'm putting this on an index card to go with the engraving for reference. Thanks Rickie
WOW...Small world,I'm sure you know quite a bit about his beautiful engraving. If possible please share with us a few Vignettes I only have one and I'll download it for all to see this masters work. connor1
frauz I will do that later. My pictures are too large in file size. They allow only 250 here. I do have lots of engravings and also spoke on the phone to Gene Hessler this past year. There was an article I came across also by Mark Tomasko. I spoke with him as well. Anyway I never knew there were people who knew of my great grandfather outside the family anymore! It is really neat for me to knowof this interest. He died in 1947 I was born in 1954 but remember many of the stories about him. I must reduce the size of my photos later.
I think you can post a link to pics you store on tinypic for larger size. Looking forward to see more.
Hi RickieB, The great Grand Son of Walter Frauz has posted a few pic,do you know how he can enlarge them for us to see details ?
Frederick.. Welcome to CT and the PM fourm... Your Great GrandDad was an incredibile engraver, but you already know that I am sure. PM me for some info on posting the vignetts, I would be very happy to assist. RickieB
W A Frauz story Hello RickieB, Thank you for the comment about my great grandfather Walter A Frauz. Because of the topic nature of engraving for stocks and bonds at the time he acquired an interest in Greek Myth. He painted it as a hobby. Here is a portion of his favorite work. He called it Night. He never sold any painting he did. He was a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and show his works in their annual exhibit. This is not a great photo of the painting but it fits within the 250 kB limit. There is another I know you will have an interest in. I learned not long ago it was the art used on Security Bank Note Company stocks.... I have to reduce the size from over 2 MB By the way He told my grandfather that she looked pretty good with clothes on also! She was Miss West Virginia who posed for him. I am still searching for who she was. I did find the first Miss West Virg. It does kind of look like her.
Resized Engravings Hi did you ever get around to resizing you Great Grand Fathers Bank Note Engravings to 250 KBs ? We would all like to see them if you would be kind enough to share them with us. Walter A. Frauz was a master Bank Note Security engraver among other security Stock Engraverings as I'm sure you know & his work should be displayed for all at CT to see & appreciate. Thanks .
Frederick... If you visit this thread again...please PM me.. I have someone who may be very interested in talking with you. RickieB
frauz Hello Rickie, Not even sure what PM means. Is the person who wanted to speak with me Gene Hessler? I am back in college (from home). Lost my job at Hershey Chocolate so went to school after MANY YEARS. I am kind of overwhelmed right now. Remind me about posting engravings if I take too long. Seems there is never extra time right now. Fred
Hello Frederick, Nice to see you here again. Do you know Gene Hessler? Indeed he was the person I was thinking of. Sorry to hear of your job loss...what do you do for work? I would love to see some of the work your Great Grandfather did..others would too, I am sure of it. Great stuff you just posted...I am sure I need not remind you of what you have! If I were in PA and had connections like I used too I might be able to help you with a job...I am in the Mid Atlantic region..mostly MD and NC right now...could possibly help you there..any Science background? PM = Personal Message... you know like the messages we have sent before. Hey... By the way I sent a PM to you... Regards, RickieB
I am going for an Ass. Degree in Business. I worked 33 years for Hershey's Chocolate. I am not an expert in collecting stocks or engraving history. My grandmother would tell lots of stories about her father. Of course the many paintings all had their Greek stories which I was told about so often. I never met my great grandfather as he died before I was born. However the family left hundreds of photographs and grandma's stories about her father stuck with me. In later years I started doing family research on the web sites. I found several 3rd cousins. It was not long ago that I saw an article from Gene Hessler and another from Mark Tomasko about Republic Banknote Co. and Security Banknote Co. that mentioned Walter A Frauz. That almost knocked me off my feet. I contacted both of them by phone last summer. Mark spoke about comming here as well. I have no interest in selling anything. These things have been in the family for all this time. I would love to share with others however. I am just amazed that his name lives on among others that know of him. I did not think he was even remembered anymore. I was not even aware of his great importance. I only knew he was one of many engravers for Western Banknote/Republic/and Security. I did know that he became a portrait engraver which was the highest level of that type of work. It was only a few months ago that Mark mentioned his importance as one of the top engravers of the time. He was very much into the "Arts" He also played the violin and painted as a deversion. There is one painting that is origional art that I know you will like. I bet you may know the stock. cert. which has the same image. I will try to attach it now if I can reduce it.... later if I have a problem. Fred

Hi Friedrick, I love the painting & the other painting you posted a few weeks back. The family history your grandmother pass down to you about her father has come full circle back to you & your future family. It is so important to keep the history & stories of our families for the next generations to come and share with others. The cointalk community I'm sure all appreciate your sharing a piece of your family history with us. I will be following this thread and hope you get around to posting the Vignettes your great Grandfather spent weeks and days engraving steel plates of art that will live on forever as a "Master Security Engraver" in his own right. connor1
