Yes ! yes yes yes yes yes And this piece proves it. For my part, I care little about the "BN / RB / RD" designation. The coin is what it is. Considering the 1820 Red/Brown - do you think Chris would have pursued it less aggressively if some TPG had said it was only Brown, not RB ? I think not. It's a wonderful coin with original skin and mint luster. A prize fo sho.
Well I guess I and few others including Charmy were on the money ... the coin had superior surfaces and eye appeal overall to me although I never thought about it being a Star coin ... not that it doesn't deserve one, I just didn't think of it! :goof:
Catbert, for my part, I am glad I was off by a grade (and in the process, I learned a bit!). I would love to see the blue toning in hand. One good coin can make a show worthwhile -- enjoy it.:thumb:
Thanks to ALL of you for your nice comments and your grade estimates (difficult to do from pics)! I learn things from your observations. For those of you who have not attended a major show, it really is worth the time and expense to take one in. If you plan in advance, one can find cheaper accommodations than the hotels nearby (rental condos, etc.). There are a lot of educational events to attend and, of course, there are exhibits to view on the bourse floor - (and don't forget to do auction lot viewing to see many coins in various grades). It's not all about buying coins!
Your coin is beautiful. Glad you had a good show. It is lots of fun and a great way to spend a day or two.
Wow Cat , great report and an even nicer coin , Love that luster and the red peaking through , also the strike is solid , I'll guess MS-66-BR , and no I didn't see you give the grade ,LOL . Congrats on a beautiful coin . rzage
