Yep, Coinstar charges some ungodly %. But if the coins are in the reject bin (more like a tube, actually) then the machine won't accept them and often they throw out the coins. I have gotten some neat foreign coins that way. No silver yet, but plenty of people have found silver on here. Check pop machine reject slots as well. The newer ones (that use electromagnetic sensors to detect coins, versus the old fashioned diameter + weight) will reject some American silver coins. I found a couple of old dimes with this method.
I work at a scrap yard and find bent coins frequently. I had like 12 bent quarters in there when it jammed finally. They spun in there for like 2or 3 minutes before the machine finally shut its self down.
I've had some decent luck with the reject tube, but I would really recommend against just throwing bent coins in the machine in the hopes of jamming it up. It's one thing if you fill it up with a lot of change, it's another to purposely (and potentially permanently) break the machine just so you can take a look inside. I'm sorry but that's rude. All you'll end up doing is get yourself or other CRHers banned, or cause backups for other bank customers. People shouldn't get the impression that there's some untapped reservoir of silver you can access by going into a bank/market and just sticking your fingers inside the machine or intentionally causing it to jam. If you happen to luck out and find a coin in there then fine, but going that far to get inside the machine is definitely crossing the line.
I see your point. When I did it, it wasn't intentional. I actually had like 70 bucks in change that I didn't want to roll up. And the bent coins where just in the mix.
Been a excellent week! Yesterday found a 2007 canadian quarter in the reject tray, today checked the same reject tray at the store and it had a 1917 Mercury head dime!! That sure put a smile on my face , there was also a few penny's and another dime but the Merc really did it for me!
it seems like i never find anything at coinstar machines anymore. excpet the time i found some change and a 1960 dime
Canadian 2 dollars coin Canadian Quarter French Franc - the size of a Quarter with a Walking Liberty type lady figure on it? HOTN
went to dump some pennies today and picked up a canadian quarter and dime. not sure if i mentioned this a while back, but i found a 2 cent piece at one of my credit unions. just sitting on the counter of the machine. twas a lucky day.
They say that the Walking Liberty design was inspired by the Sower design, but who really knows. What year? Some are silver.
I did not check the year, it was stuck to the magnet along with the Canadian so it was not silver. This machine I go to eats silver for lunch and never leaves me any free silver in the reject tube. I've seen Frankies in the half bag while they were changing it out. They would not let me swap it out, not even for my little daughters collection. We all know it's Dad's collection but she gets whatever she wants. HOTN
Ouch! Nice try with the daughter's collection though, I should start dragging my little girl around with me just to gain an extra edge!
Nothin special but I got a bicentennial quarter out of the slot today. Hadn't seen one of those since I was a kid. Ok sure, I'll hold onto it.
at my normal dump today there were 12 foreign coins and 3 pennies in the tube. 2 wheat 47 and 56 and a "1863" penny woot I suck at pics
