Ooh the square one is cool. Acetone or even just normal soap and water should remove the goo. When I get coins like that, if they aren't valuable, I will clean them up.
Found a fistful of cents, nickels and dimes in the Food Lion CoinStar. Left it all on the counter, except the 1943-D cent (rusty) and 1962 dime (lustrous).
You seem to have some luck. I have grandbabies checking now. She found a 2009 first time. Her birth year
Let's see the 1920. Oldest wheatie I pulled was 1930. Dime on the grill today and some miscellaneous exonumia on the shelf. 2 arcade tokens, 1 cent and 1 mangled cent.
what gets me why would an individual with coin knowledge take their spare change to a coinstar machine in the first place wouldn't your bank count them for free
Laziness mostly. I put my spare change into the coin acceptor at the grocery store, and I get 100% of the value, not 89%. You put $100 worth of change in the machine and you get $89 in currency. That's absurd. This company is getting rich on people's ignorance and sloth.
Have to read through the thread to find the oldest Wheatie. Be nice to find an Indian Head. I had a bucket list of finding a Merc, I knew other people did so it was possible, but I didn't really think I would get one, but I got this 1929 in Jan and the 1942-S nickel last year. I wish I kept a record but i have gotten 6-7 silver quarters, 1 40% half (and other clad halves) 3 dollar coins MS low mintage Taft, 1999-D SBA and a Lincoln. Around 25 Rosies or so. Things are drying up and I fear that the gravy train is over.
