Not a reject - but got a 1961-D Roosie in my change this morning at the convenience store.

    Nice.

.56 in the Coin Star which was a nice score by itself.
I go to the self checkout, the area is deserted, there is a
dollar in the cash change and a quarter on the floor.

You must be near the border. You get a lot of Canadians.

At the coinstar there was a handful of pennies (probably 30 or so)and a few dimes all stuck together. I pulled them out and put them in a plastic bag. I took them home and threw them in a jar with dish soap after a couple days they were perfect so I turned them in on my regular dumping run.

And I a 1917 LHC in my change at Walmart. Appeared to be from somebody's personal collection, perhaps having been taken out of circulation 70 years ago, it is so fine.

I believe it rejects the steelies for "wrong metal". So it assumes it is a foreign coin.
The weight falls between zinc and copper 2.5 2.7 3.1 and the size matches, so it has to be the metal. I have 2 steelies from the CS. One bad condit. one OK.

Sorry for the blurry pics. 2 non coin star related quarters. One yest and one today.
In the reject slot was a gold plated penny, and stuck between the grill and the coin acceptor slot was a nickel I keyed out. The other 6 cents, I was paying for my stuff and the grocery coin acceptor was jammed. Usually a firm tap, and it takes the coin, but there was stuff blocking it, so I smacked it and 6 cents rolled out, and cleared the tube.

I'm going to contact coinstar for an official answer but i thought some folks might have some info here as well... I went to my local grocery store and asked to buy the change from the coinstar machine and their response was an unequivocal "no". Maybe the person at the customer support desk was unaware but i was told that you can always (politely) ask and that you can buy change from the coin star machines. Is this not true? Maybe subject to the discretion of each location?

Coin Star is a privately owned company.
They have people who service and empty the machine regularly.
They have a rental agreement with the store (or some percentage deal).
You can't buy a Coin Star machine, or the change that is in one.
