As most have heard me lament, my computer with all my files crashed and burned a few months back. I'm still in the process of putting things right and it's a chore let me tell you. However, on the bright side, I'm re-imaging all my coins (backing up in multiple locations), and it's like having new coins with which to play. I'm finding coins I haven't looked at in months, or years for that matter, and had forgotten how nice I find some of these. So, I just thought I'd share a few with you, old and new images:

Sometimes problems turn out to be a good thing, like having to take new pics. Nice!

Why thank you so very much. I am no photographer, but I am doing my best.

I finally got all my collection together and am going to have to start photographing them myself...

I have approx. 650 coins and so far I think I've imaged perhaps 30 or 40. It will take me a little longer to get to them all don't you think?

I'd say so! Good luck. Do you just collect ancients or do you have moderns you are photographing too?

As your third or fourth backup system, a modern thumb drive (16gb) is likely to hold every file on your hard drive (unless you're a gamer) and they cost under $10. But they're a low-level resource, still it's so cheap and easy, I couldn't resist.

I keep saying I need to reshoot some older and lesser coins but maybe what I need to do is get rid of some coins so I don't have so many to shoot. You are definitely making improvements.

Well, 40 out of about 650???

It sounds like you have a lot of 'fun' still ahead of you....and that beats having fewer to re-shoot because you had to let some many go, as I had to...

    Your improvement is obvious......
I hope my photo improvement starts moving along a bit faster than it has so far--

    No, just Ancients
Thanks. That means something coming from our resident photography expert.
I've not had to let any of my personal coins go really. I bought that lot of 43 coins with the mindset that I was going to sell them (but I did keep the one - I couldn't resist)

For technical reasons, some pieces do better with a 600dpi scan than with a digital camera. Nearly all my coin shots on eBay are scanned, but then, these are pieces that have no future in my collection.

I don't believe it is BD. I picked at the green a little, but it wouldn't budge. It seems hard as a rock. Mineral in fact.

I only have a cheap scanner which doesn't even do documents very well.

very nice bing...the new photography is an improvement indeed!

i just counted my ancient and medieval coin the other day, i have 273 in my collection (not counting junk drawer/give a way/sell pile, uncleaned stuff i'm still working on)....and 6 inbound.

i also have 247 modern coins. (again, not counting stuff like an old penny album i have and misc recent coins i don't count as in my collection).

so 520 total...and 6 on the way. :woot:

New photos are a huge improvement, and an excuse to handle some of the old goodies for re-appreciation sounds like a bonus to me.
