    Of the 4 known examples of the series #1 is from, large flans are as common as normal sized flans. I'm not sure if it's a trial strike or just an artifact of the experimentation that was going on when the earliest denarii were minted. This example, from the same dies as mine, was sold years ago by CNG and has a similarly huge flan

    What a great group of coins. I’m partial to 10, 7, 6 and 5. The owl is crisp and attractive. The astronomy reverse is very cool; I haven’t seen it before. The Sicinius is extremely attractive. The portrait is beautiful and the reverse is pretty with that hint of toning in the center. The Lepidus is also a coin that pops when I look at it.

    I’d certainly be thrilled to own any of these. I don’t know much about Republican coinage so these best of lists are really interesting to read.
