Better dead than red!! Just kidding. I guess it looks okay with silver Chinese bullion coins (maybe gold too) but anything else would look weird.
I actually averted my eyes involuntarily; it's painfully bright. Not only do I not like it, I'm going to actively try not to look at them.
So the Chinese don't have their own grading companies? Hell, what I'm I saying, China probably owns NGC.
For the coin, yes, I like it. I probably would never be interested in those coins, but if I was, I might pick one up in this holder just since I have never seen one like it before.
i think that they are tying to appeal more to the Chinese market with this type of holder? I think that it looks cool.
Tacky... but what do you expect from marketers pushing Nationalism to sell manufactured collectible objects in the guise of coins! It's likely meant to spread awareness of the NGC product in China, and ease concerns abroad. As if the photo of the panda on the insert wasn't enough (there's already one ON the coin), they have a red plastic insert PLUS a printed image of the Chinese flag. It's overkill on top of already hitting you over the head to buy this garbage. How many times do they have to imply, Red = China, Panda = China? Further tampering with the more or less neutral area of the holder is just disgusting proof of the TPG attempting to use this real estate for pushing this drek they're passing off as numismatics or investments. It will be interesting too to see how well the red plastic ages or whether it effects the coin over time. I suppose after all, it was to be expected: NGC, NCS and PMG Announce Major Expansion in China [Posted on 6/8/2015]
You all may think this is just some push into China, but NGC is proposing using this red and another blue core insert on some ASEs. You know, for the Red-White-Blue trifecta. Blech...yuck...and, sadly, I think this cheapens the image of NGC.
I am glad that their labels are not yet adapted to the Chinese market (2016 - 10 人民幣 PS: Is the inlay red, because 2016 is the year of the Red Monkey???
Woof. Looks cartoonish. Of course, Pandas in general don't appeal to me at all, so I guess they've got to do whatever they can to appeal to the bullion folk.
I feel like I just walked into an Asian casino. All that slab is missing is a dragon somewhere. Can their blatant pandering be any more obvious
No. I don't like ANY of the themed inserts. Making the holder red is just turns this slab into a cartoon caricature of these silly "themed" products.
Pandering is fine if this is a plan to penetrate a market that consitutes 20% of the Earth's population.
