Yes, usually it accompanies a nice original coin, but always seemed to me to be the lazy way to delineate between original lustrous coins and non-original coins. There are lots of really nice, lustrous brown copper coins out there. In fact, my favorite modern copper coin is a very dark Victorian penny.
