Just thought I'd do a bit of show and tell. On a lark I was looking at gold coins and came across this auction. 332601773892 Bidding is at 3.5million - and still reserve not met. Anyone want to eat popcorn and through out some wild guesses? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Histo...dens-PCGS-Registry-Set-1907-1932/332601773892
And it opened at $0.99!!!!! By comparison: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-25-...d-Double-Eagle-coins-Random-Year/332411735522
If I paid this much for an auction, they aren't shipping anything, anywhere. I'll be picking up in person (or should I say "My Man" will pick up in person.)
Curious. If the collection goes for $8 million as the dealer says it could, what would be the eBay fee?
I have to watch as well. I'm not sure I would ever buy a collection in this manner. Not that I can afford it, but to me half the fun of building a collection is adding it piece by piece.
Actually, for a collection of this quality, the auction houses will often negotiate on commission. But listing it on eBay is fairly cheap publicity -- after all, we're talking about it here as a result! The most expensive item sold on eBay was reportedly a yacht at a cool $140 million.
If they have an ebay store subscription, it would be $250; otherwise $750. Paypal would still be the 2.9% + $0.30 (unless the seller has some special deal with paypal). However, I could see payment being made via bank wire. So the seller may end up only paying $250 total in fees. Edit: Bank wire it is....just found this in the FAQ: "A $5,000 PayPal deposit is required at close of auction. The lucky winner will then be given BANK WIRING instructions for the remainder of the payment. Bank wire is the only payment method we accept." Per ebay: Fee update for sellers without an eBay Stores subscription. The maximum standard final value fee—the maximum fee sellers without an eBay Stores subscription will pay per sold item—will be raised from $250 to $750. This change only affects items that sell for more than $2,500. Note: The current $250 maximum final value fee for sellers with an eBay Stores subscription is not changing.
"Your Man" or Armed transport would be the two ways to pick it up. 6. How is the set delivered to the new owner? After successful payment has been received and cleared, the new owner has two options in taking delivery of their set. First, the owner can come to Los Angeles, California and meet with Mr. Stuppler to take delivery personally. The other option is to have it delivered by Armed Transport to the business address of their choosing.
