Got the delivery today of my recent 6 coin purchase. I feel like I got a relatively decent deal at just over $60 for all 6 including shipping. They are stapled in holders and it's time to break them out! I'll post the details of what I got hopefully later tonight. (the one in the bottom left is the one I posted earlier with seller's photos and got help from @Ancient Aussie)
It's always a nice feeling... And they were all listed as undefined, so I took it as a challenge and learning experience.
Looks like a bargain, can't wait to see them posted separately with their own thread. Did you manage to work out who the portrait was?
Looks like fun and a bargain! Also looks like the seller was wrong about the "Roman" part for at least a couple of those coins
The 'bargain' part remains to be seen but the group should be educational. I'd start by deciding which are Roman and which are not so time is not wasted looking in the wrong books. Is that a hole in the largest one? Either way, it could be easiest to ID if the reverse legend is as clear as the side we see.
You might want to spread out those posts over a few days or a week or so rather than posting six new threads in one day
Haha will do. I was originally planning on just adding in to this post, but with Aussie suggestion, I'd follow suit. It'd be a great opportunity to expand my research and go into more detail about the area and history, etc. Thanks for the suggestion, TIF!
I'd love it if it was that cool! But to be honest I think it's just a flan crack from an "uncool" impact (or something) in antiquity... Obverse close up: Reverse crack: (I don't want to give away too much info prematurely)
Hmmmm...!!!! VERY INTRIGUING! I wasn't aware of that one and assumed countermarks were incuse. And the geographical location is right on... You have me smiling at how cool this is, RAGNAROK!
