I know you're kidding Taurus but realistically, think about it, any merchant I spend the coins with has the potential of taking the coins right back to the bank and not circulating them any further or giving them back out to other customers as change, including the USPS. And no, I don't take pride in taking them to the USPS. By the way, the 2010 Sac's that I got at the dedication ceremony yesterday are BEAUTIFUL!!
After paying at the cafeteria with 2001 Sac's for approximately 10 consecutive days (combination Sac's and 2 dollar bills), the cashier finally made a comment: "you always pay with the shiny coins"!
I ordered two (2) boxes of the direct ship 2010 Sacs last week. I really like the design. I plan to cherrypick the best ones and spend the rest. I hope I have better luck than I had spending the presidential dollars. Businesses around here get annoyed with them after a while.
I tend to agree with you. I am trying to circulate them but use them sparingly per transaction. I mentioned in another thread, the most I spent at one time was $10 ---- for gas. And I'm not sure I would do that again.
I spend about 50.00 a week in dolllar coins and never had any problems. Most people are amazed when they see them.
I also spend a decent amount of them each week. Well, actually, I make my kids spend them: lunch money, fee for this and that after school activity, fee for my daughter's basketball shirt -- and their friends are amazed. I pay for my kids guitar lessons with them. A guy that came and cut back my tree over the weekend, I paid him $100 in coins (he was happy to get cash). Lots of opportunity to spend them. (In fact, I wish I had less opportunity to spend them!)
I tend to frequent establishments with cash registers. The novelty lasts for about a week, then the annoyance sets in...no place to put the little buggers. I start getting..."Com'on...how about paying with REAL money this time".
My box of Sacs is on its way. I can't wait to start using them to pay for my parking again. No more counting out pennies and dimes and nickels anymore. The parking attendants always ask when am I going to start using the "gold" coins again.....and I just keep telling them very soon!
I braved the slippery roads to pick up my 2010 Sac. Direct ships. I'm just now going through the first roll in box #1 and this is what I see... 1) The coins I got are from the Denver mint. 2) The edge lettering is a mix of upside-down and rightside-up (as usual). 3) From a distance, these coins look pretty nice, but upon closer inspection, they're pretty banged up...MS63 mostly. I guess that's what we should expect from the direct ship program.
