    Hello,

This is my first post on this website, so first I just wanted to say hello to everyone before I begin. I'm a world coin collector and have been looking to unload some coins for an upcoming auction that features a coin I have been chasing for a while.

One of the coins I am looking to sell is a 1789-97 Italian States Gold Zecchino. The coin has been authenticated by an expert, though not a third party grading service, due to the coin having the correct weight and diameter as well as overall wear.

Here are photos of the coin:

Now, since I am looking to move this coin somewhat quickly, I was looking for others opinions on a reasonable asking price. NGC says VF would be $500+, but I believe that is a bit high. I was thinking more around $350-$400 possibly.

So, my question is, what do you think I should ask for in return for this coin?

    Thank you

Your best bet would be to compare your coin to completed sales of similar coins. Check the Heritage archives.

It looks like 1779-1789 (KM714) based on the legends?

Ok, maybe I should rethink the "experts" opinion. It is most certainly the 1779-1789.

Couple of favorable points - well struck in the center, no evidence of clipping, and good color.

If you create an account on Heritage (ha.com) or greatcollections.com and you can look at past auctions to see if any of these have sold and what they sold for.

Same here! Thank you very much for that!

And, yes I have found coins similar that sold anywhere from $275-$500. I've also seen similar coins sell in overseas auctions for higher than that.

Good question because I've posted that link many times. Guess you just missed it.

I'd say you're in the neighborhood anyway though I woulda said $300-$350. Venetian ducats can vary depending on Doge, condition, and specific collector interest just like most other coins.
