I'm new to coins, and came across a 1999 Delaware state quarter where it's really mangled. I don't know if this was a minting error or post-minting damage. On the side with the rider, the reverse, the metal sits atop, as if it's extra added. The obverse it's like a crater, with a raised edge. Is this worth anything? Is it worth it to get this looked at by a professional? I took these with my iPhone4, which is not great on macro shots. Thoughts? Theories as to how this got so mangled?
NO! NO! NO! @carla strange Your coin did not leave the mint in that condition. Please do not confuse the OP. The answers from @Dave363 and @paddyman98 are correct
@carla strange your coin also exhibits PMD along with the OP coin. Please do not confuse the OP with that by saying it's an error. I agree completely.
