This is a 2000-P Maryland quarter. There appears to be some doubling around the IGWT, but nothing is listed for this quarter. Looks like some die deterioration in that area, but you can see the raised doubling from all angles. Looking straight down on it looks like a complete mess. Could this be die deterioration doubling? I think it would qualify as Die deterioration doubling.

It looks to be MD, struck with a deteriorated die with circulation wear as an extra added detraction. Very common to have a little bit of all three.

Usually the flat and shelf-like MD ends up being on one side or one direction, depending on the direction of the shift or wobble of the die during strike.

The die deterioration manifests itself with incomplete or weak lettering, smearing, “orange peel” flow lines and the like and edge wear on both sides of design devices. Dies wear out differently, sometimes during early onset of deterioration you will see only the left or right side of a letter or numeral exhibit edge wear.
