Hibid is just an auction platform/aggregator.

They run plenty of reputable auctions and lots of bad ones, especially in the coin field.

It it, unfortunately a tuition we have all paid.

Sales puffery has been around as long as humans have sold stuff to other humans. The phrase Caveat Emptor, "buyer beware" is 2000 years old (Latin).

Don't let it discourage you ... just ask more questions first!

Don't beat yourself up too much. Most of us have bought a "bargain" in haste and regretted it at leisure. The key thing is to collect things you LIKE, and after while, you learn to recognize bargains when they DO appear.

Any coin shop that takes your money to have those specific items graded is not one you want to do business with. You would spend more than the coins are worth to have them graded somewhere reputable and why would you?

You can, however, use them to audition coin shops. Take them in, tell them your crazy aunt gave them to you and you wanted to know what they're worth.

Anybody who is dismissive of YOU (not the merch, but YOU) is not somebody you want to do business with.

Somebody who politely tells you that they really aren't worth more than $20 and it's not the type of merchandise they buy for resale - is being honest and forthright.

You have all been so very kind. Thank you so much. I will ask more questions in the future. I am and always have been wayyyy too trusting of people no matter how many times I get burned. My bad.

If you simply buy what you like, you'll never make a mistake.
Most collectors will try to complete a themed set that they are interested in completing.
