Sorry but the 21.187 gram weight IS within the mint tolerance of +/- .097 grams. The legal minimum weight for the Trade dolare is 27.119 grams

I can. Type 1 obv has the ends of the ribbon with LIBERTY on it pointing to the left, and Liberty has three fingers wrapped around the stem of the olive branch. Type 2 obv the ends of the ribbon point down and Liberty has four fingers wrapped around the olive stem. (There is one proof 1876 die where the ribbon ends point left and Liberty has four fingers A type 1.5) OK your turn on the differences between the reverse types

Hi Conder ... the type l lacked arrow fletching/feathers, the feather end of arrows mostly covered by eagle claw. The large vine with fat leaves and lacking berries was in need of improvment.

Type ll was an improvment as it reveal the arrow feathers & fletching, vine was thiner re-shape of leafs sharpened and point in different direction than type l, berries were also added. Thanks for the good info on Tl/Tll obverse. :smile ozarktravler

Much easier way of identifying the reverse is to look in the eagles left talon. On the type 1 there is a very prominent berry there above the first 0 in 900. On the type 2 that berry has been removed. Another easy way is to look at the point of the arrow over the 2 in 420. On the type 1 it is over the right edge of the 2. On the type 2 it is left of center of the 2.

I have a new question for you. How many Trade $1 varieties are known to exist? I found and posted a new variety, take a look at the drape fold over knee? thanks, ozarktravler
