I got an ad from the Franklin Mint across my Facebook page advertising these guitar picks: And I said to myself, I don't need such a thing -- I've got THIS! Post any guitar-pick-shaped flans you might have! Or anything you feel is relevant, of course!
LOL, too funny, @Roman Collector ! I think Ptolemy's son was a JAMMER Egypt Ptolemy II 285-274 BC AE 17mm Eagle Cornuc SV 762
Here is my submission: I "think" it's either Severus Alexander or Elagabalus. I'm not sure...Either way, it has always reminded me of a guitar pick.
@Roman Collector , could I borrow your pick? I am a bass player, I use a pick for playing (yeah, shame on lazy me) and all my picks are worn.
The nearest I could find is this. Tyche is on obverse, whereas Marsyas is on reverse but he's not playing guitar.. He's rather playing the flute. No need for picks.BMC47
That's quite a pick-shaped coin! I have an older model (not Franklin Mint): Here's an ancient variety - one that Caracalla found particularly irritating. The official pick of the Severan Games in Nicaea: I am unsure what instrument, κιθάρα? or the lyre? this might have been used with in ancient times. Timely thread. Here's an Elymaean drachm ("Prince A") at auction now, part of a small lot. I noted the odd shape a few days back, and returned for this pic when I saw the subject of the thread here.
It looks cool, but I dont use any metal pics, I would tear up my strings quick. Would be cool to have a acient coin as a pick thou...
Now thats a coin I would like (Caesar coin) its the coolest thing I have seen lately. I am going to show all my guitar friends...they will be wanting one like it.
