I bought a PCGS certified coin that was in a scuffed-up holder. In addition to scratches and scuffs on the outside, the inside appears to be breaking up and creating debris. I don't quite understand why it looks this way under magnification because the holder is clear plastic. You can see the raggedy edges. I have a few questions: 1. Has anyone ever done this before? 2. Does PCGS always assign the same grade as the original when reholdering? 3. Does the serial number stay the same? 4. Is there any concern about whether you actually get back the same coin you send them? I have hi-resolution photos, so I can identify landmarks on the coin. This is an issue I have never heard anyone here discuss.
