Ok I call out to all you Capped Bust Half specialists this is your chance to shine but I gladly accept any and all thoughts. I have posted pictures of the 1827 Capped Bust in question here, as you can see it is in the raw. I dont really have a good understanding of how the coin's age may "ripen" or "soften" the overall application of the standards but this aside I am wondering what if the look of this coin has a overall good appearance? Do you think it has been cleaned? If it has been cleaned it most likely was done so many years in the past. The overall surface condition appears to be consistent throughout the coin's obverse and reverse. On the obverse one can see that the majority of the stars retain their inner fine detailing, giving them a better overall appearance and 3 dimensional perspective. A large number of these 6 pt (formerly 5 pt) stars show their full structure. The Capped Bust device itself is a good strike, through the hair, by the ear and the face there is excellent detail. On the reverse, I like the fact that the surface has the same overall appearance matching that of the obverse. And without a doubt the eagle seems to me at least fully struck up and detailed, with excellent definition between the feathers and then within each feather further detail can be found. The lettering looks great and dentricles on both sides look great. IF sent to a TPG would they grade it and what would you expect the grade to be? What would the value of a graded slabbed coin be? Thanks
