Well that's two things that made me doubt it as a true error. Her age being what it is, any quarters minted the year she was born were minted at a time where a head/head or tail/tail mule would have been impossible. Even if it was possible... the fact that it doesn't have the same date on BOTH sides (suggested by the fact that mention ONE side is dated from her year of birth) makes it so unlikley as to pretty much be impossible... why would two differently dated obverse dies even be anywhere near each other at the same time? Unless it was towards the end of the year, and they were minting next year's coinage already... if they're more than one year apart though, forget it, it's just a magician's coin.

I'm still wondering about the "authentication." Technically, a magician's coin is made from two genuine coins, and if that's all they were looking for to call it "authentic" maybe that's what they meant... she probably has parts of two genuine coins there... just extremely unlikely that it's an authentic error.

Edit: Wrote what I did above before seeing that picture lol... not only is it just a magician's coin, but apparently only half of one. The other side of it looks to be missing.

I hope someone knowlegable breaks the news to her gently before she embarasses herself trying to sell it. But she shouldn't be expected to know any better... at this point a bunch of people who should have already known, or at least been diligent enough to research it and figure it out, have been fooled by something that is obviously not a genuine error. Including professional news reporters! Those are the people that should be deservedly embarrased by this.
Technically, a magician's coin is made from two genuine coins, and if that's all they were looking for to call it "authentic" maybe that's what they meant... she probably has parts of two genuine coins there... just extremely unlikely that it's an authentic error. Edit: Wrote what I did above before seeing that picture lol... not only is it just a magician's coin, but apparently only half of one. The other side of it looks to be missing. I hope someone knowlegable breaks the news to her gently before she embarasses herself trying to sell it.
