Way more than ya think. But, I'll play. How many is enough ? How many is too much ? If a hundred people answer you're probably gonna get at least 80 different answers - to those questions. But if ya ask this one - how many times have you clicked on a like button ? And then ask, if you had to type out each time ya liked something, how often would you "like" something ? Next up, but not least, which number is gonna be higher ? That last question, if ya ask a 100 people, I'd bet 99 and maybe all of 'em are gonna have the same answer ! So, where does that leave us ? It leaves me with one more question, which method carries more meaning, feeling, importance - in other words, which one would ya rather have ? Somebody clicking on an innocuous like button ? Or somebody actually taking the time to type it out when they like something ? What's the answer ? I guess that's gonna depend on what flavor of ice cream ya like
But, but, but, metrics! XenForo doesn't provide a count of how many people replied saying they liked something! To quote another science guy:
But you CAN determine how many times Doug has "liked" something by typing it out and express it as a number. All you have to do is go through ALL of the posts that have been made on the forum and count them. You just can't get the computer to do it for you.
Nope, that introduces guessing at intent and thresholds. Doug wouldn't always have used the word "like". Instead, I'd need to have him go through every post he's responded to, and in each case indicate whether his response really indicated that he liked the post. Perhaps by hitting some sort of button on each such post. Or we could, you know, continue to have these conversations where we use words to indicate our agreement or disagreement, the way grown-ups used to...
