PMD - Post Mint Damage. There are no known errors that look like that. That could not occur during the coin milling process. Either a counterstamp or pressed in a vice.

Someone hit the back of the coin with an X shaped punch. The image pushed through to the obverse. Simple as that.

but what about the area around Abe's jaw? It has no texture. Just the outline. Someone would have to melt down the copper and make it flat right?

I didn't make it. Haha. I would never damage a coin. I love coins.

I'm sure a closer look will definitely tell it's PMD! Or that inspector X was working at the Denver mint in 1960.
I really thought inspector X worked at Fruit of the Loom during that time frame. That would explain all those little slips of paper.

Is it just me or doesn't the X on the Obverse look totally different from the X on the Reverse? Weird.. Still PMD

I suspect a different punch was used simulatenously on both sides of the coin. The reverse "X" punch pushed metal towards the obverse against the punch on that side. Why somebody would bother to do this is anybody's guess.

Maybe because they lost their job as a latex salesman?

The obverse isn't punched in though. It's going out. A beveled look. Okay i'll get a side picture up...

You make a very valid point. The X is different.
