HI GUYS I'M NEW ON THIS AND HAVE SOME RARE COINS TO SHARE, NEED TO KNOW IF WORTH SOMETHING, THANKS IN ADVANCE
The nine has a die chip in it and your coin has been cleaned which makes it worth only face value. The y has been damaged to make it look like that.
Just for my knowledge (school is always in), how can you tell that that particular coin was cleaned? Thanks,,,,, Foo
Agreed with NLL, very harshly cleaned. Only would have been worth a few cents before, but if it had been valuable the cleaning would have really killed it.
The coin is too shiny and lacks luster indicating that it had been cleaned and polished. The filled 9 is a small common die chip. The T in LIBERTY took a hit and since copper is soft it forced the crossbar of the T downwards forming a Y. It did not leave the Mint like that. Welcome to CT.
What collecting nut said..... I’ll just add to the OP in case he didn’t know.... Don’t clean a potentially valuable coin. Unless a coin is mint state, shiny is not good. And any collector can spot a cleaned coin a mile away.
Here is a thread I created on the LIBERYY Enigma... Just damage https://www.cointalk.com/threads/the-liberyy-cent-enigma.309022/
