Rare Caracalla Sestertius Liberalitas Platform Type RIC 309

Curtis - I only wish that I had focused on this area before and had the means - I just saw one of the most beautiful sestertii of Septimius sold by Bertolami - Auction 279, Lot 313 - I should have taken out a loan - the coin went for 3500 euros but it is breathtaking. Also a beautiful Adventus sestertius of Elagabalus - I don't know why I didn't try for either.

The above coin was sold to the VCOINS dealer by JESÚS VICO, SUBASTA 152, LOT 430, another indication of it being genuine. I worry too much.

By the way I was check the relative rarities of the sestertii of Septimius Severus using acsearch.info - it is amazing how common some types are and how rare others are. RIC 724 to 730 are ridiculously rare but RIC 718 common by comparison. It is fascinating - Africa type and Three Moneta keep coming up but Securitas never - although I was able to find one worn speciman and foolishly didn't buy another. But rarity is such a bizarre concept - I had recently bought a Domitian with Jupiter seated - the common type. But even being called common there are only 54 types on info.com.

In any even there is an article there if I can find the time to write it. What does it say about a coin if there are no examples sold on a major auction house since 1999? I don't know how to answer that.

A belated thanks - I am not certain why this is - I am more concerned about its resemblance to the Geta fake, although for all I know the person who made the fake may have been using this as a model. I really like the coin and very much want it to be genuine - but if it is not I would need to know so I can return it. But I take it from Curtis's reply that all is well and that is very much good enough for me.
