I would like a 1834 $2.50 capped bust gold piece.

The reason is I have a very nice 1834 Classic head $2.50 gold piece. It was my first gold piece and although its quite nice and fairly rare the capped bust gold piece made earlier in the year is significantly more rare, and also a prettier coin imo.

So I used to sit and wish, sit and wish, sit and wish that my 1834 classic head 2.50 coin would magically turn into a 1834 capped bust 2.50 coin :D. I am still sitting and wishing though ><

I'd love to find ANY 1800's era US coin.... with my metal detector. My father started me in the hobby when I was a kid 30 years ago, in West Germany (he was army)... we'd hit old battlefields.. forrests.. old bunker sites. It was awesome.. dad was the best!

German money at the time (10 pfennings) were mostly steel, and dad caught me making a "treasure finder" out of an old ski pole and magnet I dug out of the trash when a neighbor threw away some large speakers. I'd use that stick to get coins out of the drainage slots in the curbs. He'd laugh.. but he went & ordered a detector out of the sears catalog for my xmas.. and we started doing it weekly from then on out until my teens.

Years passed... dad's career changed, I got married & we ended up on opposite sides of the USA. My son was born.. and I've started him on the hobby now that he's old enough to show an interest (finally got bored of video games). I never got to hunt with dad again though, as an adult, in the USA... he passed away a few years ago. We'd always talked about hitting some old homesteads, as he really wanted to find some old pennies, silver, anything US that was "old"... he loved the idea. Just never found the time.

I relic hunt... and although I've found a TON of clad.. and a few silver... and a ton of relics... I've yet to dig a true 1800's era american coin. Hopefully this summer!

My dream coin is whatever coin comes up as the prize for next years 4th Annual March Madness CoinTalk contest! I plan on winning this coin by letting my 4 year old daughter make each and every pic. Why would I do that? Well because she beat the crap out of me this year with her pics against mine!

I've loved Walking Liberty Halves for 6 or 7 years now. The 1921-D, which is the most expensive (In low grades anyway) is the only key I don't have. I'm in debt right now, and its going to take me the rest of this year at least to dig myself out of it. But once I do, it shouldn't be a problem. So I expect to be able to buy one next year. Maybe at a show that takes place in St. Louis in February. I've always pictured myself buying one in G4 or VG8, because of the cost. But if I could get a really nice one, that would really be a dream ;)

I, too, would like to get an Oregon Trail Half Dollar. I would like to get a whole set of the commemorative half dollars. I have 3 of the cheap ones... maybe someday...

My dream coin is VERY unorthodox.

I am assembling a proof set from 1962 (the year I was born) from NGC graded at PF-68 UCAM. The Half Dollar is a kinda pricey coin, but they can be found if I save enough to buy one. The coin I am having a hard time finding is the nickel. There are exactly 57 of them in existence. I can either wait for one of them to show at auction (I haven't even seen one in 2 years of looking) or I can try to find one in an old Proof Set. The odds are stacked against both events, but it's a pursuit.

Find someone else who dreams of a relatively common date modern coin. I dare ya!

    Dream Contest

My dream is to obtain a real graded slabbed CC trade dollar. I have tried to get two so far off E-bay and have been stung two times. If I can't win one on a CT contest, I guess I will have to bite the bullet and buy from a dealer. Although I don't like their mark-ups, the way that I have been going, I guess it will be cheaper in the long run. Dream away Dave, your day is coming.

I want a capped bust half or quarter

I plan on hunting through different coin or antique shops hoping to get the best deal that I can on a bust half or quarter.

My dream would be a 1964 Peace Dollar. A few years back, I was approached by a Frenchman (living in France) who claimed to have one, as well as some other older gold coins. I must have fantasized about it for a weeks or so, until he sent me a good scan of the coin. Yup, as it turned out it was one of those Moonlight Mint coins.

Had to write a small book to the Frenchman explaining all about the Moonlights, and the reasons why it wasn't legit. And to boot, after all that time spent, he didn't even want to sell the coins.

I hope I can sneak in under the dead line, as it is Saturday, the 14th but it is still rather early.

My dream coin is a 1932-D Washington Quarter Dollar. The coin is the most sought after Washington quarter and also the most key date. Yes, I do own one...but it is in VERY low grade. We are talking Fair 2 at best. I would LOVE to own a 32-D in VG - EF...and if I ever owned one in better than that (say, MS for instance.) I would probably die of a heart attack.

My first set I am aiming on putting together (aside from a 20th century type set.) is a complete 1932 - 1964 Washington Quarter Dollar set. I still need to get the 1932-S, 1936-D, and 1937-S but I am plugging away at that goal. I just have a fondness for Washington quarters, as they represent my youth. Back when I was a kid you could get some decent stuff for a few quarters. A soda, a couple plays at the arcade, and maybe even catch an early matinee.

When I started really getting into coin collecting, I researched out the Washington quarter and I was just so amazed by all the little details that I had never even have thought about a few years back. That is not to say that I do not enjoy Liberty Head and Standing Liberty quarters, because I do, but the Washington quarter is the coin that I most remember from when I was a kid. Now suddenly the coin has a deep history. First minted in 1932, was made of silver (one of the things that got me into numismatics is the precious metals.), less than half a million made of both the 1932-D and 1932-S. Coin was minted to commemorate George Washington's birth. Back in 1996 I would have NEVER have guessed ANY of these things about one of my precious quarters. Only that the quarter was a gateway to fun, and I needed to collect as many as I could.

    Here is my current 1932-D

    Hi everyone,

There were some very nice entries and it was hard to pick a winner! Unfortunately most of you forgot to say how you plan to earn your dream coin! That was part of the contest ;)

So the winner is "swish513" who talked about an Edward the First Penny. It would be nice if they could please give us more information on this coin, we'd all love to hear:) I have asked for your address in a PM, will send out your prize asap!

Thank you for everyone who participated!

oh wow! thanks for the contest ryan!

as far as my dream coin, it's an edward i class 1b penny. it's an extremely rare variety of the class 1 pennies, which were minted in london in 1279. according to j.j. north (who is basically the rick snow of edwardian pence) it could be a pattern piece, but the number of surviving pieces makes it unlikely. it is listed in spink (the british red book) at £975 in F and £3500 in VF! here's a pic (scan from a reference book) of the obverse, which reads +ED REX: ANGLIE DNS HYBN.
