Hello all, I have acquired a new FSN, Fancy Serial Number $20.00 printed in 1969. It's a radar.. Definition - Radar - In a radar serial number, the serial number reads the same left-to-right as it does right-to-left The previous owner purchased it from Heritage Numismatic Auctions Book value for normal 1969A C Note is either - CH CU $80.00 or Gem CU $90.00 Since it is a Radar it has a even more value Question? - Do you think paper currency collectors collected Fancy Serial Numbers back in the 60's or before.. even after? Or is this like a new fad in FSN's collecting?
Question? - Do you think paper currency collectors collected Fancy Serial Numbers back in the 60's or before.. even after? Or is this like a new fad in FSN's collecting? No, sorry. Don't know. But the definition "Radar" was interesting to me. RAdio Detection And Ranging. Some radars sweep the sky, back and forth "left to right/right to left" (like your serial number) TA's or TT's until they lock onto a target.
I believe fancy serials have been attractive to paper currency collectors from at least the early 1900's. Serial #1 notes, solid serial numbers, and others are available even on large-size notes dating back to 1899 Black Eagles.
I've collected radar notes since the mid-1960s. Didn't seem to find many. Remember no eBay or internet in those days -- most business done by mail.
A few more for your viewing enjoyment: == == and what's really fun to collect are obsolete radar notes == == == but back to the topic of $20 radar notes ==
Fancy pair. Very similar serial numbers. One is a radar, and one is a repeater.....both use 3's and 8's and have great margins.
