Double Die I know just enough to be dangerous

This may have been covered before, but is there a way to tell if a "Racketeer Nickel" has been modern plated or actually from the right era? I have a couple from a bulk buy that look nice, but almost too nice. What tell tale signs are there if any??

Only way I know of is that the pieces most often considered to be genuine have filed faux reeded edges...... Most of them are modern. Folks like Littleton have been gold plating them for years.

I think I have answered my own question in looking them over more closely. The worn down areas of the details still have the same even appearance as the fields. This shouldn't be so even after all these years.

Just quick pics, not sure if these have enough detail to make a determination? r5.jpg r51.jpg

Smooth and the same finish as the rest of the coin.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I've seen @Conder101 post an authentic vintage one. At least, I think it was him.

The overwhelmingly vast majority of these are fakes.
