Bing pushed me off the wagon and due to his negligence I ended up getting a coin. I always wanted a spanish cob piece and this was too cheap to pass up. It's in a PCGS slab & I wont be busting it out. Now I am back on that wagon till after the holidays, unless bing or someone else gets rowdy in the wagon & I fall off again . If any of the attribution is wrong, please let me know. Charles II of Spain (1661 - 1700 A.D.) AR Real Cob O: Cross of Jerusalem within coat-of-arms. R: Crowned pillars set on wave. Lima, Peru 1692v KM-20
Very nice indeed. But I don't know from these newfangled coins. They're too shiny. They hurt my eyes.
Yah, I like to think of it more as a "raft" rather than a wagon ... I can easily pull myself up onto it, but I can always dive-off if I see a cool coin swimmin' by ... => Super looking coin, Mat!! (nice snag!!) ... I don't have too many coins from this century (huh? => actually, I don't have any!! ... 1599 is the closest thing ... France, Henri IV Huitieme d'Ecu 1599)
Too modern for me (for me anything after 1500 is modern) but its an interesting coin. Do you know if it was a sunken ship/treasure find?
i like those as well, nice pick up mat.. here's the closest thing i have in the modern spanish flavor.. philip iii, 1578-1621 ae maravedis what the heck is a "cob" anyway? as i udnerstand it it's a coin minted in the spanish colonies...is that correct?
Ive been wanting one of those too, yours isnt countermarked like many ive seen. A cob is a clump of silver clipped off the end of the bar.
If it helps justify it for you, you are still technically on the Ancient coin wagon. See it is like you never fell off. I like a lot of coins but cobs have never really done it for me I don't know why. I do enjoy yours. what does the coin read on the reverse?
Well, well. Blame me. It's always my fault. Mom, he's lyin' on me!!! Here I am still hangin on (tied on is more like it) and I get the blame for you being pushed off the wagon. I actually think it was Steve. He's did it first. Off and back on again. Hrmf. Too modern for my taste, but a nice lookin' coin Mat.
Never thought of that but your right. As for the writing, not sure myself since this is my first one. I had to goto Dave Sedwicks site to get some info. I know the assayer is probably some of the writing but who, I have no idea. Well it happened so fast, maybe it was steve?
There's not a coin i don't like, of all the things you could collect ,what's better then collecting money. Awesome coin Mat, nice big chunk of silver...
Very nice, here's one from the same century (James II halfpenny, 1688)... ...I also have a Spaniard, although it's pretty far off date wise.
This guy thinks you have a strong case against Bing. Maybe Steve too. Or whoever has the deepest pockets
Nice coins vlaha, I have an 1788 8 Real too. Graded AU53 by ICG. I have smaller denominations too except the expensive 4 real.
