Have a quick question, how long will the mint have the proof ASE available for purchase? Last year they didn't have them for sale long, but then again, they weren't available until towards the end of the year. I won't have the money to get one until September.
They are suppose to have the Burnish dies in Sept. So probly around then...would be my guess!! Just recieved mine the other day!! And she's a beauty!!
This may be my last money spent on this series. The coin I recieved with this new laser technology, is so far under quality compared to the previous engraved pieces, I think I'm going to stop buying them. This is true of all the new commemorative's as well. There are many older pieces in the commemorative market I don't have, and obtaining them will keep me busy for quite some time. I will go where I feel the quality is rather than updating an existing set. Anyone else see this loss in the quality?
I like the laser etching, but that's one mans opinion. I can understand your view too Sam. Lots of folks don't like the newer versions but I'm on board with the style......
green18: It just seems we favor maximum quantity and lowest manufacturing cost over quality, even in the collector series of coins the mint produces. I thought collector versions should be the show place for our Mint's best efforts. Paying an additional premium for BETTER quality is worth it, and making the best for this premium, should be their goal. But when you look back in time, and can see a better product being made then, well something has gotten lost. As a collector, this bothers me. So since this a personal thing, I'll vote with my feet (as they would say), and move from these current standards back to the ones I feel were better. I don't think I'll be jeopardizing the value of my collection by doing this.
US Mint kiosk at Union Station I picked up a set of Kennedy Half rolls and a proof ASE on my way home from work today. I commute into Union Station each weekday, and having the US Mint kiosk there is a win-win for commuters like me: the convenience/instant gratification and saving on shipping costs are great
