Hi to all: Trying to identify the silver undercoin over which a cuban medal is struck, I have so far concluded that the undercoin is a half dime, either of 1796-97 or 1838-1853: visible are parts of the legend ""UN... STA.. OF AM...ICA" and a wreath underneath it. In addition, three stars of the circular legend are visible on the other side of the coin. My reasoning: - the legend "United States of America" coupled with the wreath underneath it, and the stars on the other side, rule out the under coin to be any of the following: - capped bust: these have no wreath. - seated liberty with no stars: these have no stars. My questions: the close placement of the "F" and "A" in "OF AMERICA" and the style of the wreath seem to rule out the 1796-1797 possibility. Do you concur? In addition, the coin has a coin rotation. What is the rotation of the 1796-1797 issues? Thanks!!!
