Question on 1994 Canadian 50 cent piece

Through the wonderful people here at Coin Talk, I received this as part of the week 8 contest. I am led to believe that there is something to this coin than just the coin itself, and I am royally confused.

Here are some pics, and a tight in shot of the only variety that I could find, the G dot 1994 Canada 50 cent. Is this an example of that variety?

Cris - I suspect that asking your question at the Canadian Coin Reference site would get a knowledgable response that more than 25 viewers here haven't given you. Good luck.

(What I don't know about Canadian coinage could not only fill a book, it has already filled several. )
