Question for the Error Guys.......

I was at a coin show last week and one of the dealers had a table full of slabbed errors for sale. I’m not an error guy, but enjoy looking through them.
One in particular caught my eye. It was an 1980 Lincoln Cent that weighted 2.5 grams.
It was slabbed by ANACS. It was graded at AU55 ( I should have took a picture, but at the time I did not think of it, sorry).
So my question is.....the 2.5 gram cents where not minted until 1982, how did an 1980 get minted 2 years early??
I asked the dealer, he did not know either.

It should be pretty concerning that a dealer specializing in errors did not know how this happened.

Best answer. It was likely a thin rolled Planchet, as Jim suggested.

What show was this by the way?

I agree with Jim, just concerned that a dealer can't tell the consumer what the actual error was.

it's not a copper coated zinc planchet. It was a struck on a thin copper planchet..
Here are 2 examples from my collection -

Sorry, meant to make that three different lines. You got best answer because I know you also thought thinly rolled planchet but brought up the more concerning issue about the "error dealer" not knowing basic errors.

It was at the summer show/auction in St. Louis, sponsored by Scotsman Coin.

Thank you Desertgem, Paddyman98. Appreciate sharing your knowledge.

The dealer also had 3 other tables of regular stuff. He said he travels the southern states buying large hoards and reselling the interesting items at shows.

Thin planchet errors are not worth that much. That price was way to high.. I would put it more in the $20.00 - $30.00 range raw. Condition is also a factor in determining value .
