I do six boxes at time. My strategy has been to return them at my credit union. I buy them from a BOA branch. When I pick up a new batch I just cash a check off my credit union account. It has worked so far. There are three branches of my credit union within a resonable drive. It irritatates them but I don't worry.

This is the kind of information that encourages me to get into the game, so-to-speak. Thank you all. I'm ready for Monday morning, to see if I can make this happen.

Quick question, I've already purchased a few rolls of Halves and had no luck with landing any silver. I'd like to be able to use that money to help re-invest in buying boxes. Are the Kennedys worth keeping if they are 1971 and newer? Also same situation with the Presidential Dollars. Keep 'em or turn them in for more chances at hitting some silver? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

I dump everything that's not silver, a doubled die, or a no FG error.

I haven't found any errors yet, but I keep all silver, and a selection of other dates just because my Grandpa and Gramma started giving them to me when I was a little kid, so I don't think I could ever get rid of them, but I also keep any that I need for my Whitman folders.

Hey, Does ordering half dollar boxes still work in getting silver?? Im a new coin hunter :D and im 16! Hopefully i can get around 200$ worth of half dollar boxes if thats possible. I feel kinda stupid as i have waisted about 150-200$ in my coin collecting coins...well not really as 95% of them aren't in circulation no more :p but i bought 1 franklin and 2 kennedys 90% for about 15$!! :'( and i read you guys get it for free hopfully i have the same luck!! OFF to my bank!

Well not for free, at face value. Boxes of halves cost $500 if you can find a bank to order them for you. I have not found silver in a box yet, but lots of other people on here have. Check out the other roll searching threads!

I have been searching rolls of halves for about 5 weeks now, looking through $2000/wk. I have found about $200 in silver. My question is this: it seems that wherever I get my boxes from, they are all from the same source, The Fed I'm assuming. Other than asking banks if they have halves on hand is there anything I should be doing differently to get better results?? It seems impossible to find a small bank that has a stockpile of halves tucked away in their own vault - is that even a possibility??
FWIW, my first box yielded 10 40s and 2 90s, the boxes I'm getting lately aren't nearly that fruitful and it makes me wonder why I'm doing this at times.

I've asked my bank if they could order a box of halves and they said they couldn't. Is this right?

When you say "$200" of silver halves, do you mean face? If so, finding 400 silver half dollars in 5 weeks in EXCELLENT.

My suggestion is use this thread....this is where the roll searching gets reported on a daily basis.

I haven't gotten a box yet, and have only been asking for halves at banks for about 2 weeks now. I have no shame, even if I don't have an account I just go in and ask.

I hit right around 20 banks, most banks I dont find a thing, however I get a nice hit every now and then.

    Here's the breakdown:

    Week 1: 4 Banks 1 40%
    Week 2: 16 Banks 13 40%, 1 90% (Also got about 150 Ikes)

Got $250 in rolls today but they had been picked through already, the guy wrote his name on 3 coins per roll.......... He overlooked a 2004p though, that netted me a few bucks on Ebay :)

Picking my first box up tomorrow! Cant wait

Nice necro. Guess I should have started roll searching halves about 3-4 years ago if I really wanted to score some good finds, ugh.

in my first box of 500, which i just picked up today, I ended up with 1 walker, 2 Frankies and 3 40% JFKs. Also got myself another not intended for circulation from 2007, all in all, not too bad I guess :)

You should probably post your results in the following thread instead of this one, as this doesn't see much activity.

Congrats though, that's a pretty solid box. Better than most of mine.

Thanks for the heads up, sorry for the newbie mistake. I know, I got very lucky, but was trying to encourage some of the people who were saying they were on a dry spell. Good luck and happy hunting!

Not too bad is a huge understatement. wait until you string together 8-10-15 skunk boxes in a row. You start to be really happy just to grab 1 -40%

They also told me that as soon as their half dollar bag fills up that I can take that too if I want. Has anyone had any luck with coin machine bags?
