Just came across this piece. I've had a few of this type with the eagle right, looking back, reverse but not like this. Typically the reverse has his name circling around the eagle with a very small crescent (or other object ... or nothing at all) just above the eagle, but within the inscription. This one is certainly different. Alexander III ‘the Great’ Ae : Lifetime issue (15mm, 3.0gms) Obv: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion-skin headdress Rev: Eagle standing right on thunderbolt, looking back; AΛEΞA-NΔPOY around, crescent at upper left Official issue or not? Be nice to hear your opinions.
Me following this thread as I'm a really big fan of this coinage... I assume it is, but I'd have to dig out my "The coinage in the name of Alexander the great and Philip Arrhidaeus" by Price...ok, I'm off my buns to see if I can find it and an answer. Though, hopefully someone will beat me to it. My neon cousin of yours:
