I decided to open some rolls of 2009 nickels to look for errors. They have a gold tone on the end and a few with toning on the complete back and the edges are rough. Is this good or bad and should I go through my other sets and put them in 2 x 2 holders?

The guy I had bought them said he had them in storage, but I don't know what kind if storage he used. The boxes were sealed. I will try to see if I can find out. Melissa

    Wonderwomen,
When I was young I enjoyed the "Wonderwomen" comic books and forgive me as I did not welcome you to the forum.
As the coins are only less than 8 years old it IMHO do not believe they were naturally toned as opposed to artificially toned however If you personally find the coins atractive then by all means keep them as "the beauty is in the eye of the, you know.
If your looking to value the coins, thats a different matter, be careful what you buy as there are a plethora of fakes out there.
Post a good image of the toned coin and I will check it with my spectroscope next week as I am curious.

The coins were in sealed boxes from the mint. Do you want full image of front and back? I was using a microscope camera taking photos, but I am just learning that thing. Thanks Melissa

obverse and reverse would be helpful and as clear as your camera permits
    Till next week,

These are also 2005 not 2009. Sorry for that!

i have several toned Westward Journey nickels. Perhaps it was the folder that I have them in (a Whitman). In any case, mine are definitely album-toned, which I don't think is considered artificial toning.

In addition, I also have a 2007 dime that is toned gold, and a bunch of 2008 JQA dollars that toned to a dark golden color.

No problem! Keep that coin in a safe place and hope for some more pretty toning!

My JQA dollars look better every time I look at them. It's amazing that they've toned so fast (but I'm not complaining :) )

There is more than one. There are rolls from mint uncirculated coins. Thanks

That's interesting. Unless a coin is silver, I won't keep a toned coin. I don't like the look of them. To each his own, huh? I guess that's what makes collecting awesome. No one way to do it right.

Looks good, let them tone more. I have some 2005 nickels that I keep in a paper wrapper that are showing similar gold, with some purple/blue.

These were kept in a ground safe in a wine cellar for 18 years.
